  1. A mongoose is any of various carnivorous 
  2. mammals of the family Viverridae, especially 
  3. the genus Herpestes. The Indian mongoose 
  4. Herpestes mungo is greyish in colour and 
  5. about 50cm (1╜ft) long, with a long tail.
